Start

Select the category from the drop-down box on the left hand side of the page and click on the next button to begin your search.

If you are an existing member and have previously saved searches, clicking on the retrieve last saved search will jump you straight to step 3 when you click the next button.

You do not have to sign up to begin searching, but if you become a member more features will become available to you.

Clicking on the new user link or any of the sign up buttons will launch the sign up window.

Signing up enables you to save your searches for a later date and also for the FUMZUP™ tool to determine product reviews that most closely match your profile and send you details about them.

Step 1

The FUMZUP™ database contains information about products called product features.

The features you select in Step 2 are used to personalise your search and to find the products that most closely match your needs.

Choosing a product feature in the left hand filter box will filter the results of your search.

To apply a filter, select the feature in the top part of the box and you’ll notice options will appear in the lower part. Choose an option(s) by clicking each check-box or selecting from the drop-down boxes.

You can apply more than one filter by selecting multiple features in the top part and choosing it’s corresponding options.

The features in the tag cloud (middle green highlighted box) are the features that you decide are important to you when choosing a particular product. For example price and size may be important to you. You can choose as many as you like, but our tip is to limit the number of features to just those that are most important to you in order to make the search results more relevant.

Choose which features are important to you by clicking on each feature. You’ll notice that they will move to the right hand area. Clicking on the features in the right hand area will move them back into the tag cloud.

If a feature does not appear in the feature tag cloud, it is likely that FUMZUP™ has not been supplied the relevant information about the product. You can request information on a particular feature by clicking the wishlist button and sending us your wishlist. FUMZUP™ does not promise to be able to get the information, but we will request our suppliers on your behalf and update the feature information if it becomes available.

Once you have selected filters and features that are important to you click on the next button to move to the next step. Clicking on the back button will take you back to Step 1.

Step 2

FUMZUP™ takes the features you have selected and creates a score against each product in order to give you a shortlist of products that most closely match your needs. In order for us to create this score you must first let us know how important each feature is to you.

Select a feature from the tag cloud (the green highlighted box) by clicking on it and it will appear in the right hand area.

Once it appears on the right you can move the arrow shaped slider to the left or right by dragging it with your mouse to determine it’s importance. The labels next to the slider should help you to decide where to drag the slider to.

For example, choosing a car as an example if the size of the car was important to you, then sliding the arrow to the left would weight the search in favour of big cars. Similarly moving it to the right would favour small cars.

The distance from the centre determines how important each feature is to you. For example sliding slightly to the left would mean a big car is somewhat important to you, but all the way to the left would mean a big car is very important to you.

Leaving the arrow in the middle will mean that an average size car is important to you.

Repeat the steps above for each feature before clicking on the next button to see the results of your search. Features that you have weighted will appear green in the tag cloud. Those that remain white have not yet been weighted.

Clicking on the next button will take you to your product search results.

Clicking on the back button will take you back to Step 2.

Clicking on the save searches button will allow you to retrieve your search at a later date. You have to be a member to enable this feature.

Step 3

Once you have selected features and weighted them in steps 2 and 3 FUMZUP™ is able to determine which products best match your needs. This product suitability is given by the FUMZUP™ score. A high score means that the product is better suited to you than a product with a low score.

The top 4 products are displayed in order of highest score to lowest score. If you wish to display more than 4 products you can use the scroll bars at the bottom of the page.

By default the top ranked product is locked in place. Dragging the green arrow over the product of your choice will move that product to the top ranked position for comparison.

Hovering over the product name with your mouse will display additional information about that product. Hovering over the product image will display a larger image for you to view.

If you click on the image a new window will launch and direct you to the manufacturer website (if available). Similarly, clicking on the supplier logo will take you to the supplier website (if available) where you can find out more or purchase the product.

The drop down box allows you to select one of the features you chose in Step 2 and to display the actual feature values. For example choosing price will show the actual price of each of the products listed.

You can save a product to your shortlist by checking the shortlist button next to the product name. Clicking on the shortlist button in the top right hand box opens the shortlist window and allows you to see your shortlist. You have to become a member to activate this feature.

Becoming a member gives other benefits too. FUMZUP™ recognizes that you value the opinions of your peers when choosing products. By signing up and saving your search FUMZUP™ can profile you and match you with similar members who have written reviews. That way we ensure you only get product reviews that are relevant to you from like-minded individuals. You can also write reviews yourself.

If a product has a review you will see an average rating next to it – 5 is good, 1 is bad. You will also see a review button that you can click on to see more details. You have to be a member to see reviews and will be directed to a sign up page first if you wish to see more.

More information about reviews is given in the review window and general help area.

If you wish to see more information about a product you can click on the product tables button in the top right hand area and you will be taken to a more detailed product information window.

Reviews

If you have conducted a search FUMZUP™ is able to determine your unique searching profile. Your profile is compared to other FUMZUP™ members in the database and your similarity to those members is calculated.

FUMZUP™ is then able to use this similarity score to find relevant product reviews to aid in your product choice.

If a review exists on a particular product then you are able to view the nickname of the reviewer, their similarity to you and the comments and rating they gave the product. The higher the similarity score the closer they are to you on their searching profile, up to a maximum of 100.

Reviews by default are ranked according to those that are most similar to you first.

You’ll notice a reviewer type also. This tells you whether that reviewer currently owns or uses the product, whether they used to own or use it or whether they are familiar enough with the product to offer an expert opinion.

Hovering your mouse over the review will show a larger window so that you can see the full text if it doesn’t fit in the available space.

You can use the green arrow to move a review to the top ranked position and search for more reviews using the scroll up and down arrows at the bottom of the review list.

You can save a product to your shortlist by checking the shortlist button next to the product name.

Write A Review

You can submit a product review so that other similar FUMZUP™ members can view your comments when choosing a product.

To write a review type in your comments in the text box provided and use your mouse to rate the product from 1 (bad) to 5 (good) by dragging the thumb icon.

You will be asked the nature of your review by confirming whether you are either; a previous owner/user, a current owner/user or whether you have an expert opinion to offer.

FUMZUP™ has a strict policy regarding material of an offensive or abusive nature. When you submit your review it will first be checked by the FUMZUP™ administrator. If the material is found to breach our acceptable material policy it will not be published and your user rights may be terminated at our discretion.

Sign Up / My Account

By signing up you can release other FUMZUP™ features that make your search experience even more meaningful.

You will have access to product reviews and exclusive offers that match your unique profile. We compare you to other members of the FUMZUP™ community to generate a similarity score between you and your closest matches. This score ensures that we only display reviews from members that are similar to you.

Fill in your account details and select the options from the drop-down boxes and check-boxes. Your email address will be used each time you login and your nickname will be displayed next to any reviews that you have written.

You can choose a favourite colour, which will be used to personalise the colour scheme and your user icons.

By signing up you are able to take advantage of the additional features, but will only be sent promotional material and special offers if you opt to subscribe to FUMZUP™ newsletters. You will be sent a verification email to confirm your permission.

Your personal details are kept confidential and will not be released to 3rd party advertisers. You will receive latest news, offers and promotions from FUMZUP™ only. You can unsubscribe at any time. 

Additionally you can opt-in to receive promotional SMS messages if you submit your mobile phone number.
